GramDesk Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-10-16
GramDesk is a browser extension that lets you download Instagram media you can see, audit your followers and following, unfollow accounts you choose and export comments. This policy explains what data the extension handles and where it goes.
Summary
- There is no GramDesk account, no GramDesk server and no analytics.
- The extension talks only to instagram.com and Instagram's media servers (cdninstagram.com, fbcdn.net), using the Instagram login already present in your browser.
- Everything it keeps is stored in your browser's extension storage and in files you download.
Data the extension stores
| Data | Where | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Theme, naming rules, download defaults, safety timings, daily limit, whitelist of usernames | chrome.storage.sync in your Google account | Your preferences, available on every Chrome you sign in to |
| Your own account summary (user id, username, name, profile picture URL, counts) | chrome.storage.local | Showing who is connected |
| Followers snapshots (user id, username, name, profile picture URL, verified and private flags of your followers and following, with a timestamp) | chrome.storage.local | Audit lists and comparisons between snapshots |
| Unfollow queue and unfollow history (user id, username, time, result) | chrome.storage.local | Running and reviewing unfollow sessions |
| Download memory (Instagram media ids already downloaded per source) and a log of recent runs | chrome.storage.local | "New only" mode and the recent-runs list |
| Comments export marker (post shortcode, time, count) | chrome.storage.local | Showing what was exported recently |
Exports you request (CSV, JSON, text files, ZIP archives, photos, videos) are written to your Downloads folder and are under your control.
Data read from Instagram
With your permission the extension sends requests to instagram.com on your behalf, exactly as the Instagram website does when you browse it. It reads the csrftoken and ds_user_id cookies to authenticate those requests. Cookies are never stored by the extension and never sent anywhere except to instagram.com.
What is requested depends on what you do:
| Action | Requests |
|---|---|
| Followers audit, snapshots, auto snapshot | Your followers and following lists |
| Downloader, Download by link, floating button | Profile information, media lists and the media files themselves |
| Stories | The stories tray, stories and highlights of accounts you open |
| Comments export | Comments and replies of the post you enter |
| Mass unfollow | One unfollow request per account in your queue |
Viewing stories through GramDesk does not send a "seen" marker to Instagram.
Data sent to third parties
None. The extension contacts no service other than Instagram. It does not send analytics, telemetry or crash reports.
Page access
The content script runs on instagram.com pages only. It adds a floating GramDesk button and reads the page URL to decide which actions to offer. It does not read page content or modify Instagram's pages beyond adding that button.
Data retention and deletion
All data lives in your browser profile and your Google account sync storage. Delete snapshots, queue entries and histories from the relevant pages, use Settings > Data to export or wipe local data, or remove the extension to delete everything it stored. Files in your Downloads folder remain until you delete them.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13.

Updates to this policy are published at the same URL with a new effective date.
